Web Design & Usability

As electronics manufacturers scramble to put web browsers on anything with a screen--PDAs, cell-phones, gaming systems, and now, thanks to Sony, digital cameras--web developers must become aware of how their websites appear on different platforms and deliver the appropriate layout.

However, it seems that many web developers and large companies that are moving to support handheld devices are largely ignoring advancements for the original alternative web layout, the printer-friendly page.

Does your site navigation reflect the internal departmental structure within your company? Or is it organized by the needs of your customer or propsect?

I assume that Amazon has done all of the research, and I assume that their conversions and upsells are higher with all of these links, cross-sells and wishlists; but I find myself seeking other sites where the information is just a little easier to get to.

Your job is to train the site visitor to know what these colors mean, so that they can navigate your site more effectively.  If they are trying to click on things that don't go anywhere, they're going to get frustrated.

I've seen lots of designs that use red as the navigation font color or as the body copy color, and the site looks great.  But, is is really usable?

Everyone seems to be doing their part to save the planet these days. And that Go Green mindset is translating into Web design, too.

Do you really need an actual "Home" button?  Can't you just rely on the site visitor to click the logo to go home?
